Mellissa Morgan, aka Ms. Cupcake, is giving the 1950s housewife image a thoroughly modern makeover. With lashings of red lippie, a flurry of polka dots and a string of pearls, she might take her inspiration from a psychadelic Mad Men character, but actually Ms. C's baking ethos is surprisingly modern. Because her cupcakes are made without eggs, milk or butter - and they still taste delicious.

Mellissa is celebrating this week after being crowned Rising Star in the annual Baking Industry Awards 2011. 18 months ago, she moved her vegan cupcake business from her kitchen to an official Brixton HQ. Today, her signature cupcakes come in more than 100 seasonal flavours. Whether you fancy a cocktail classic (mojito or Pimm's cakes, anyone?), a childhood nostalgia trip (gumdrops and rhubarb & custards) or a diet-compliant dessert taste (banoffee pie, cherry bakewell and even blueberry cheesecake), she's got all bases covered.
Her delicious range also includes indulgent brownies, cookies and cupcakes, and a host of other sugar, soya and gluten-free cookies. With such an amazing range of flavours, it's no surprise that she's been chosen as a supplier for the 2012 Olympics.
